Want to go solar but worried about the cost of a solar installation? Rebates and incentives can make your solar panel installation more affordable!
Texas Engineered Solar is a trusted local solar company near you in San Antonio, and we can help you take advantage of all the best local, state, and federal solar incentives. With excellent incentives and zero-down, low-interest financing available, solar energy installation is more affordable than ever for your San Antonio home or business.
The federal solar tax credit, formally known as the solar Investment Tax Credit or ITC, is the best federal solar incentive program currently in existence. The solar tax credit allows you to reduce your federal tax liability by 30% of your total solar installation costs with no cap. It’s available for both residential solar and commercial solar projects.
The 30% solar tax credit is available until 2032. It will be reduced to 26% in 2033 and again to 22% in 2034.
The benefits of a solar loan far outweigh the benefits of a lease and for most homeowners, financing is a better option. If you are a CPS customer, you cannot lease your solar panels.
There are not currently any San Antonio-specific solar incentives available. CPS has offered rebates for residential and commercial solar installation in the past, but the CPS solar rebate program ended on December 16, 2022.
CPS claims it will continue to provide rebates for targeted customer groups, including small businesses, non-profit organizations, schools, and low-to-moderate income (LMI) customers in future programs.
NBU and GVEC are not currently offering a solar rebate program.
The excellent solar incentives in Texas are just one of the many reasons why we are one of the best states in the country for solar energy.
Net Metering
Texas doesn’t have a state-wide net metering policy, but many Texas utility companies offer net metering, including CPS, NBU, and GVEC. Net metering allows you to become an energy trader instead of an energy buyer. As a participant, you’ll be able to send excess electricity from your solar panels to the electric grid. In return, you’ll receive a credit to your account that can be used to offset the cost of any grid-generated electricity you use.
Solar Energy System Property Tax Exemption
Installing solar panels can and likely will increase the value of your home. Higher property values usually mean higher taxes, but Texas has a property tax exemption for solar panels. If your solar panels add value to your home, you won’t have to pay higher property taxes as a result.
